Astromech N-3d0 Customizable Droid

All models are printable without any supports, an AMS is optional but you will need to add manual filament changes to some of the parts

The connecting pins are printed with a flat side because they print much smoother and stronger this way

There are 8x panel slots in Droid-Head, 16x in Droid-Body, 1x in Droid-Base and 1x in each Droid-Leg

I have printed a lot of panels to dial in the size but this may differ for every printer and filament. They should easily pop into the slots and hold them self in place, if they fall out to easily you may want to use a little glue to hold them permanently, If they are to tight then I would recommend calibrating your printer and chosen filament. You could reduce or increase the x and y size of the panels a little but this should not be needed, every printer is different and every filament shrinks differently

I have included a test print which includes a blank panel and a test panel slot which you can use to dial in the fitment by resizing the panel x and y slightly if you really need to

Assembly

Body

• Insert the shorter (10x19mm & 5x9mm) connecting pins into the Droid-Base holes
• Slot the Droid-Body on to the connecting pins in the Droid-Base
• Insert the longer (10x22mm & 5x12mm) connecting pins into the Droid-Body holes - If you want Droid-Head to rotate once assembled you should omit the small (5x12mm) connecting pin
• Slot Neck-Ring over the two connecting pins
• Slot Droid-Head on to the connecting pins

The connecting pins should hold the parts together without the need for any additional glue. If not you can either reprint the pins slightly bigger or use a little glue to hold it together, do not glue the head connecting pins if you want it to rotate

Panels

Panels should just push in place and hold them selves in the slots, the angle at the top should help push the panel down and into the correct position

Legs

• Insert 2 (5x9mm) connecting pins in to the leg
• Slot the Droid-Leg-Foot on to the connecting pins
• Slot the Droid-Leg on to the Shoulder-Panel and insert the Shoulder-Pin to lock it into place

Head Panel

The holes in the top of the Droid-Head currently have no function, but the centre hole can be used to remove the head-panel by inserting a screwdriver in the bottom and applying pressure until the head panel pops off

The easiest way I have found to remove the panels is to insert a thin craft knife into the gap at the top angled edge of the panel to create a larger gap and then use a stronger knife/scraper to pop the panel out

There are currently 20 different 2 colour panels and 1 blank panel (single colour), to fill every panel slot you will need to print a few duplicates or make your own custom panels

I have added some tighter fitting shoulder panels to the raw files section, these panels should hold tighter in the body if the original ones seems a little loose when the legs are attached
