Description

Tired of getting your hands and arms all greasy from those pesky z-axis rods? Fret no more!

This is a new, from-the-ground-up 2.0 revision of my full size (from top to bottom) z axis cover that not only looks nice, sleek and clean but also protects your hands from grease. This revision is improved in two very important ways:

  • improved fit on the very narrow left side
  • wider, rounded off edges that now cover the little seam of light that came through before

Instructions

  • Due to chamber temperatures I strongly suggest somewhat heat resistant filaments such as PETG, ABS/ASA etc. - I did my personal print in Bambu Lab PETG-CF which worked flawlessly and looks awesome.
  • In order to ensure adhesion there are three feet w/ cutouts that need to be equipped with magnets
  • The cutout dimensions are 12x12mm with a variety of depths (3 Profiles), ranging from 1.1mm to 1.8mm. Depending on the strength one magnet per cutout should be enough to ensure adhesion. I've been using these magnets with this model but other magnets w/ the needed strength will do just fine

  • Important: The magnets need to sit flush e.g. not protrude above the level of the cover itself

  • If the magnets you want to use are thicker than the depth of the magnet pockets feel free to adjust the depth on the STL files
  • Glue the magnets into place with CA adhesive & let it cure
  • Move the print bed to a low position, insert the covers and you're done!

Troubleshooting

  • The piece does not fit, scrapes or even lifts off when in use: Check if the edges and if they line up as intended. If the edges do not line up properly that might be indicative that your part has warped. Check on a flat surface, apply some heat and gentle force to shape into the desired direction.
    • alternating the print direction and/or using brim can also help w/ warping

Update: 2025-01-14: This model used to be a remix of FrancescoMs - I liked the base model but i already made numerous changes in the old version. This version is a full from the ground up redesign that was done from scratch so I removed the remix title. Thanks a lot for everybody involved for the continous feedback regarding improvements. I will continue to read and improve upon all of your feedback!
