Description
Introduction
So I was not very pleased with the filament shelfs i found online… So I designed my own.
This filament storage shelf is designed to accept cheep wooden rods from the hardware store with a outer diameter of 23 mm (-0,5).
I printed my the brackets with ABS and PETG, the wall mounts with the Bambu PLA-CF. I testet the strength and it is sufficient to hold 40 kg without any sacking, bending or whatever!!! There are semi-holes included on every bracket, so you could fit a 3rd rod to print directly from the shelf.
The wall mounts are simply screwed into the wall using drywall anchors or just screws into the studs.
The lenght of this model depends on your wish and the wooden dowels you buy. Mine is about 140 cm long and i used one middle bracket inclusive the wall mount to secure it. There is no sagging whatsoever. I recommend a bracket every 80 cm at least.
And don't worry, the wall mounts for the right and left bracket are designed in a way that the shelf can't be pulled off the mounts to the side. It is safe as long nobody pushes from below.
Use a high ammount of infill, and at least 3 outer walls for stability. I would not recommend the use of PLA-filament because it breaks without warning. Other filaments as PETG or ABS/ASA warn you before breaking by bending. The design is support-free.
The holes for the wooden dowels are 23,2 mm as standard.
Remeber: ABS shrinks a lot, so the holes can get bigger (yes bigger), so please print a small test part.

Waht I imagine:
a spool holder and a riser so that you could pick up a single spool and print from it directly from the shelf.
