Description
One must solve the puzzle to open the box. Use this box to give small gifts and add some fun by letting the recipient solve the puzzle to get the box open. Two sliding mechanisms are hidden beneath the ribbons, and they must be moved in the proper sequence for the box to open.
Â
The main parts of the locking mechanism are printed in place when the lid is printed. After all the parts have been printed, some assembly is required. The ribbon parts must be attached to the lid and the box with glue or double sided tape. The two pieces of ribbon that hide the lock must be attached with great care so that the locking mechanism can move freely. If glue gets in the tracks of the sliding parts the model will not work. The model pictured here was carefully assembled using epoxy. Double sided tape is another option to consider. Whatever you choose, just be careful that the locking mechanism can still slide freely after the ribbon pieces are attached.
Â
Attach the ribbon pieces to the lid when the latch is in the locked position to ensure proper alignment of the ribbon parts.
Â
Version 2 of this locking gift box goes together without glue and has more steps in the puzzle. You can find it here.
