NFC Tag Pokéball

Description
As an avid maker and Pokémon enthusiast, I am thrilled to introduce my latest project: the 3D Printed Pokéball NFC Accessory. This innovative creation combines the nostalgic charm of Pokémon with modern NFC technology, resulting in a versatile accessory that can be used in countless creative ways. Whether you're a hobbyist, a tech-savvy professional, or a Pokémon trainer at heart, these NFC-enabled Pokéballs offer a unique blend of fun and functionality.
Overview: The 3D Printed Pokéball NFC Accessory is a compact and stylish device that can have any information written to its NFC tag. Inspired by the iconic Pokéball, this accessory is perfect for various applications, from personal and business uses to interactive games and practical utilities.
Printing Options: I have designed two versions of the Pokéball NFC accessory to accommodate different 3D printers:
Multicolor Printer AMS Version:
- Printer Used: Bambu PS1 with AMS
Design: This version prints in two parts that snap together, offering a seamless and professional finish with multiple colors.
Single Color Printer Non-AMS Version:
- Printer Used: Ender 3 S1 Pro (also tested)
- Design: Designed to be glued together, I have updated this version to snap together easily to alleviate any misaligning parts.
Applications: The 3D Printed Pokéball NFC Accessory is not just a charming collectible; it serves various practical purposes:
Digital Business Cards: Impress your contacts with a unique digital business card. Simply tap the NFC Pokéball to a smartphone, and your contact details will appear instantly.
Scavenger Hunts: Create exciting scavenger hunts by hiding Pokéballs with clues written to the NFC tags. Participants can use their smartphones to scan the Pokéballs and receive the next clue.
Interactive Games: Use the NFC Pokéballs as part of interactive games, unlocking new levels or characters with each scan
Smart Home Integration: Program the NFC tags to function as door keys or control smart home devices. Imagine unlocking your front door with a Pokéball!
- Educational Tools: Teachers can use these accessories to engage students in a fun and interactive learning experience, with educational content stored on the NFC tags.
Technical Details:
- NFC Tag: The accessory includes an NFC tag that can store various types of data, such as URLs, contact information, and custom text. Writing data to the tag is straightforward and can be done using any NFC-compatible device. For example, you can write Pokédex entries from the official Pokémon website (https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokedex) to the NFC tag, adding a fun and informative element to each Pokéball.
- Filament: For color options and high-quality prints, I use PLA filament from Bambu Labs or Silky PLA from Overture. These filaments ensure durability and a smooth finish, whether you're opting for a vibrant multicolor design or a sleek single-color print.
NFC Tags and Application: For this project, I use high-quality NFC tags, which can be found here on Amazon. These tags are known for their reliability and ease of use. Each NFC tag is adhesively attached to the top of the red part of the Pokéball print. This placement ensures optimal functionality and easy access for scanning. The adhesive backing on the tags provides a secure and durable attachment, maintaining the sleek aesthetic of the Pokéball design.
Personal Experience: As a passionate maker, I have thoroughly tested both versions of the Pokéball NFC accessory. The Bambu PS1 with AMS allowed me to achieve a stunning multicolor design, while the Ender 3 S1 Pro provided a reliable option for single-color prints. Each accessory is a testament to the endless possibilities of 3D printing and NFC technology.
Printing Time and Future Updates:
Printing a single AMS Pokéball on one plate takes approximately 4 hours. However, those using a single-color printer (or are just printing the disassembled ball with AMS to save on time), the printing time is around 50 minutes. A Creality Ender 3 S1 Pro will take significantly longer than any Bambu Labs printer (Up to 8 hours).
I am committed to improving this project and will be creating more print files tailored to various use case scenarios. Additionally, I plan to develop gridded profiles for multiple prints, making it easier for users to print several Pokéballs at once. These updates will be made available once the models are finalized, ensuring a more efficient and streamlined printing process for everyone.
Conclusion: The 3D Printed Pokéball NFC Accessory is a versatile and innovative creation that bridges the gap between nostalgic fun and modern technology. Whether used as a digital business card, a key to your smart home, or a tool for interactive games, this accessory is sure to captivate and inspire.
