In this video I will show you how to use the SUNLU filament connector in the most realistic use case scenario with the filament still attached to the roll. I will show you the challenges with using this filament connector tool and how to work around them. Plus, I have a free printable tool to help in the process.
The premise of the SUNLU filament welder is to fuse two ends of filament together to create a seamless joint and join two lengths of filament to become one continuous piece. This process can be challenging for a number of reasons and there are a few ways the joint can be compromised. The most common modes of a failed filament fuse are too much heat, too little heat, and pulling the joint apart before it has cooled. I will walk you through my failures and show you a successful filament weld in my trials.

Remember to cut the ends of the filament square - not at an angle. Also, apply gentle pressure from both sides during the heating process, don't push too hard. After the filament splicer makes a beeping noise, release the cover and hold the filament steady while you continue to apply gentle pressure while the joint cools. If you need to clean up the splice joint, use a hobby knife to carefully shave the joint into round.
