Description
Flying Indoor Jet
The 7th installment of the Simple Indoor Glider series, gliding smoothly through rooms with one throw. It has the appearence of a jet and takes 25 minutes to print.
Comparison
It has similar performance to v5(Biplane), however it trades a slight amount of consistency for extremely smooth flights.
Printing
Print in PLA. When removing from the build plate, make sure you don't warp the wings if the plate is still heated. It is recommended to wait for the plate to cool before removing the model.
Assembly Guide
Flip the plane over so that the grip is below the wings, put the vertical wings in from the front notch first. Fold the elevators on the back horizontal wings up.
Detailed Assembly Guide
Start with the plane and wings like this.
Flip over the plane.
Insert the wing shown on the left into the slot on the left. There are two connection points on the wing, with a difficult to secure notch in the front and a relatively simple notch in the back. Start with the front notch, and then push down the back notch. The front might be easier to secure by placing the back half of the plane on a preferably soft surface, and then pushing down from the bottom of the wing. If the wing bends, just bend it back. Repeat for the right side.
After both vertical wings are secure, check the back(horizontal) wings and bend them back to a 90 degree angle if they were bent during the process. Fold up the elevators(located on the back horizontal wing) a little bit less than 45 degrees.
Throwing
Throw the plane like a dart. Place your thumb on one side of the grip, with your index and middle finger on the other. Push your entire hand forward at a slow to medium speed, and release the plane. Make sure that the jet is held straight until it is let go of. If it doesn't glide smoothly forward, check that:
-Your throwing isn't the issue
-The back(horizontal) wings and the main wings are completely straight
-The two back(vertical) wings are in place
-The elevators are at the same height
-The one layer parts have no gaps or holes in them
-None of the wings are bent
The plane can be thrown forever until the wings are broken or the back(vertical) wings fall out so many times that they aren't held by the jet anymore, both of which shouldn't happen when gliding at a slow to medium pace. If the jet falls before going into an object/wall or being caught, tilt up the elevators more. If the jet climbs up and then down, slightly tilt down the elevators.
The grip can be snapped with enough force if you're using the model for display purposes, but it won't fly after that.
Boost MeThis model was extremely difficult to make, I spent over a spool of filament on printing its iterations. I'd like to make v8 while also getting my spool back, so I'll strongly consider the recommendations for v8 from users who boosted. (Just leave your idea with your comment, multiple people can suggest the same thing) Even if you don't have a reccomendation for v8, support would be greatly appreciated.
Here's a GIF of a jet after 20 throws being thrown at a slightly downwards angle (side profile)(slightly sped up). The captured area is around 10ft wide, the jet gains some altitude off screen before losing height slowly until it lands on the ground. It does not move to either side at all. If your jet flies worse than this on its first throw, the issue is with your throwing, assembly, or printer.
