Description

Customizable, Trackable Dog Name Tag, Trackable with Optional Airtag Compartment

Overview

This 3D model is a fully customizable dog name tag designed to offer flexibility in shape, size, texts on both tag sides, and assembly methods. The tag can optionally include a compartment for an AirTag, which adds a minimal size constraint to the tag. Without the AirTag, the tag can be as small and thin as required since all aspects are fully parametrized. The model supports three different shapes: a classic Bone shape, a rectangular Box shape, and a Barrel shape that resembles the iconic barrels carried by St. Bernard dogs.

Checkout the Print Profile attached for several tag options, including Slicer configuration.

I really recommend you checkout my latest model - a unique filament clip. using a simple rubber band.

After not finding a filament clip that fit my requirements I designed my own.

Printing Instructions

  1. Model Preparation:
    • Select Shape: Choose between Bone, Box, or Barrel shape depending on your preference.
    • Set Text: Customize the text, font, size, and positioning for each line on the tag.
    • Choose Assembly Mechanism: If including an Airtag compartment, select the desired assembly method (e.g., screws, nuts, heat inserts).
    • IMPORTANT: Toggle Design Mode: Use DESIGN_MODE while designing to view the text. When ready to print, turn off DESIGN_MODE to fill the text cuts with material, which will later allow for color customization in your slicer software. This is required so in design mode you'll see the text, while when for downloading material will be filled in the text holes which you can easily color in the slicer.
  2. Slicing and Color Setup:
    • Set Initial Object Color: Before slicing, set the object color to the color you want the text to be.
    • Split to Parts: In your slicer, use the "Split to Parts" function (not "Split to Objects"). This will separate the text and other components into different parts.
    • Switch to Object Mode: After splitting, switch from global mode to object mode in your slicer.
    • Set Main Body Colors: Select the main body parts of the tag (typically the first parts listed after splitting, though this may vary), and set their color to the desired body color. Now you'll be able to see texts looking at the plate from below.
    • Barrel Shape Specifics: If using the Barrel shape, locate the barrel rings parts and set their color as you prefer.
    • Set Color Order: In your slicer, go to the plate settings (accessible via a button next to the plate), and set the color order so that the first color to print is the text color.

Assembly Instructions

If you choose to include an Airtag compartment, the tag will be split into two parts. Depending on the selected assembly method, follow these instructions:

  1. Self-Tapping Holes for Screws:
    • Use screws to fasten the two halves of the tag together. Align the holes, and carefully screw in place.
  2. Bolts with Nuts:
    • Insert bolts through the provided holes and secure them with nuts on the opposite side. This method offers a strong and durable connection.
  3. Heat Inserts:
    • Heat inserts can be installed in the designated holes using a soldering iron. Once the inserts are in place, use screws to assemble the parts.
  4. Slicer-Cut Connectors:
    • If you choose to cut the connectors in your slicer, follow the instructions provided by your slicing software to ensure a clean cut and fit. This method is recommended for advanced users who are familiar with slicer features.
