Description
This was one of the first functional models I ever designed myself from scratch so thank you to everyone who has downloaded and printed so far, and an especially big thank you to those who uploaded colour print profiles - I hope Snoopy has been treating you well!
Since posting this model, I've learnt a lot about how to design prints that are a bit more efficient and less wasteful (I also finally picked up an AMS so I can dabble in colour printing.) I've been wanting to come back to Snoopy and apply these learns for ages and so I'm excited to announce version 2 of the Snoopy sticky note holder!
Below are the changes that have been made:
Reduced the required supports
Something that has always bugged me about this model is the amount of material needed to support the pretty significant overhangs. The model has been redesigned so it now requires less material in the roof and fewer supports on the inside (which were always a nightmare to remove) and around the edges. Unfortunately this means the look of the roof is significantly different from version 1 but, in my opinion, it's worth it for less wasted filament.
I also switched to tree supports and have messed around with some of the settings to hopefully sort the drooping issue that some of you were having.
We've gone from v1 which needed around 200g of filament to v2 which only uses approx 83g!
Snoopy is now printed seperately
When I originally created this model, I didn't have an AMS and so was only designing for single colour printing with the intention of painting afterwards. After finally getting my hands on an AMS and doing some colour printing, I wasn't super pleased with amount of filament waste with each colour change and how much longer my models were taking to print.
I saw some really smart comments who suggested to have Snoopy as a seperate model. What this means is now only 1 colour change is required and it significantly reduces the amount of time needed to do a coloured print (from around 10hrs to around 3hrs). Thank you to those commenters, this is game-changing!
IMPORTANT - I decided to have Snoopy print in a single colour (white). This means you'll have to colour his ears, eyes, and nose yourself. I've found that a black paint pen or even a Sharpie works really well for this. There were 2 reasons for this decision - the first is to reduce filament waste and the time taken to print, and the second is that in the original Snoopy cartoons, the black in his ears is just a scribble. Painting this yourself means that you can get a more true to the orginal depiction (it also means that every single print will be unique.)
Model is slightly bigger
I've upscaled slightly to make make sure sticky notes fit.
The hole in the front is now deeper
This is a very small and boring change (which is why it's last on the list) but something that has bothered me since day 1 is that the hole in the original model wasn't deep enough once you started to use up the post it notes. Now it should be easier to pull out sticky notes.
Thank you again to everyone who has downloaded and left feedback, I really appreciate your support. Version 1 of the model will still be available if you prefer the look of it but I hope that version 2 will be a much more efficient and easier model to print!
