Description

This model can be customized online to make a box and sliding cover of virtually any size. A raised text label can be added to the cover, and the label’s rotational orientation is selectable. The finger slot is optional and resizable. The box’s interior can be optionally divided into compartments of equal size. Colors may be specified by the user.

The box has a couple refinements. First, small bumps in the ends of the cover’s grooves provide a bit of friction that prevents the cover from falling out without making it difficult to slide. Second, the box’s bottom edges are smoothed with a fillet, like the other two boxes in this series.

Problems or suggestions?  Please leave a comment below. Thanks!

Printing tips.  Based on my experience with this parametric box, here are some hints about choosing parameters:

  • Cover Bevel Gap — Default 0.1 produces smooth sliding, but some experimentation may be required
  • Cover Slot Friction Bump — Try changing by 0.04 or 0.05 to change the tightness of fit

How to generate a colored text label:

  1. Click “Generate Label” under the Customizer’s “Cover Label”
  2. Enter desired text label and parameters
  3. In Bambu Studio or other slicer software, split the model into PARTS, not objects—this keeps the lettering on the cover
  4. Assign a filament color to all parts corresponding to the individual letters, usually all but the first two parts listed

How to split labeled box into 3 colors in Bambu Studio (only necessary for STL files):

  1. Clone one copy
  2. On one clone, split to OBJECTS and delete all objects except box bottom
  3. On other clone, split to PARTS and delete the part corresponding to box bottom
  4. Assign filament colors to box bottom (an object), lid (a part), and lettering (multiple parts)
  5. Global > Others > Special mode > Print sequence > By object
  6. Arrange objects so they don’t overlap on the same plate; alternatively, skip Step 5 and print objects on separate plates

Update 10/3/2024:  Added optional compartment divider(s) and support for user-specified colors.
