Hello!

Please read the guides bellow for printing!

Got the inspiration for this project while playing chess with my grandfather.

The chess pieces are modeled by size of chess pieces that I have at home. All are perfect size for a nice match of chess!

The whole board is 400*400mm with each tile at 5x5mm.

This means that this chessboard is quite large and requires multiple prints to setup together.

In total i designed so it is printable without the AMS and you need to print 4x white and 4x black tiles and then connect them together.

The designs for the pieces went thrugh some alterations (thats why some pieces look different on the whole picture).

All chess pieces are modeled after my home set but with some degree of my own artistic expression.

Each has a very nice tactile feel to them and you can hold them in your hand very nicely.

I designed the horse ony my own so that it can be print in place.

No supports are needed on any of the chess piece prints!

For printing:

All pieces are print in place without the need for separating into multiple pieces.

I reccomend only printing 4 pieces at a time to avoid any extra movement caused by the printer.

You can try printing all pieces at once, but I dont reccomend it as there could be a chance of the passthrough piece getting stuck to the walls.

If this happens you can try unstuckign it by pushing a flat head screwdriver in between the cracks of the piece.

All of the pieces passed my print test 2 times (black and white colour).

Settings for pieces:

  • 15% infill
  • 2 walls
  • 0.2mm layer height
  • no support

Chess board:

Please take note of the following guidelines for the chessboard!

The chessboard has a specific print profile so that it minimizes filament being used and that it can be connected together.

Print settings:

  • 0.16mm layer height
  • 2 walls
  • 0 top shell layers
  • bottom surface pattern: concentric (this adds a nice effect to the tiles)
  • 2 bottom shell layers
  • 15% infill with HONEYCOMB pattern!
  • supports only on the “puzzle” parts (use tree supports)

The board consists of 2 main sets of parts.

The “black squares”: - they have the little mouse ears on them that allow them to be connected together like puzzles.

And the white squares (they have small circles that connect to the other board.

Make sure each board is facing the right direction while printing.

For the “black tiles” the mouse ears should be printed facing up with supports please see attached picture:

Also for the one white square plate make sure to add a little “mouse ear” as shown on picture:

After you're done printing:

You connect the tiles by connecting the “black tiles” like puzzles first and after that you press in the “white tiles”.

You shouldnt need an assembly guide since its pretty straightforward. If people will need an assembly guide please ask for it in the commenst and I will upload a youtube video detailing the steps.
