** Inbuilt shapes, easier to use

Make your own design Springos (aka Slinky)! - Updated!

This generator uses OpenScad implementation in MakerWorld - file upload capability.

To use the tool follow these simple steps:

  1. Design the outline of your springo. This should be a closed single-line polygon. I used LucidChart to do this - shape with no fill and transparent background.
  2. Save the design as an SVG format file.
  3. Using the button in the customize tab of the model, upload this file to the springo generator.
  4. Set the parameters as you want them - most users will only need to use the ‘basic’ parameters—an explanation of the parameters is given in the model.
  5. Generate the model
  6. Visually check the model to ensure
    1. leaves of the spring are ‘cut’ all the way through - if not see the advanced settings
    2. size of the model is what you want
  7. Download and print.
  8. Once printed use a knife to separate the spring CAREFULLY - I find a blunt table knife works best.
  9. Go springoing!

Notes:

  • There are some sample SVG files here… SVG File Samples
  • You will likely get a warning from the slicer about overhanging cantilevers or similar - this is normal.
  • The generator trys to create a wedge shape for the spring leaf gaps with the outside gap larger than the inside gap. This helps a lot in separating the spring after printing. Parameters for this wedge are in the advanced section.
  • Please give me feedback on your springo generation!

Update information:

  • Added ability to have solid end caps
  • Added an optional emboss on the ends
  • Changed the size parameter to be the diameter (was radius)
  • Improved the calculation of the profile to avoid issues with some irregular shapes
