Description

When I visit the SanXingDui exhibition, I was fascinated by the artist of GuShu people. Dated more than 3000 years ago, they didn't seem invented writing, there isn't any character on any artifact we have discovered. Yet they made very beautiful bronze stature, masks, all full of imagination.

I use the slot/insert flex fabric system to make this pixel art of a bronze mask. And surely you can design your own pattern using Bambulab pixel art generator to convert any picture into pixel art, just remember to save the pixel art picture and use it as a template.

If you like my ‘slot/insert’ system, boost, show your make, or leave a comment or suggestion or ideas. Your like will be my drive.

Caution: this making need some intermediate knowledge about slicer.
this making can be fragile and might break under certain force with some small piece fall out, don't give it to little kids.

Build steps:

  1. Find a picture that you like and convert it with Bambulab pixel art generator save the picture to the disk. Remember the pixel size should be 39x36
  2. There is also a page showing how many tiles of each color you need, you can use it as reference.
  3. Print the full plate fabric, which is 40x36 slots
  4. Print the hang, install the fabric on the hang
  5. Print inserts with fillament of different color. Usually Bambulab filament only have a few colors. You can create different shade of a color by print your primary color (i.e. red) as first layer, then print another color (i.e. white) on layer 2 or above. This will make a lighter version of red. You can also try print two layers of primary color then print another color. You can mix color this way and insert them on the test block to test the effects. Print in small batch first them print as many as you want when you are confident.
  6. In my pixel art, I use the following inserts (all Bambulab PLA basic):

    gray (345pcs)

    black (152pcs)

    white (6pcs)

    bronze (403pcs)

gold*2+green (two layers of gold and green for the rest) (222pcs)

gold+white (one layer of gold and white for the rest) (276pcs)

  7. Install inserts on the fabric slots. If you misplaced a piece, gentally wiggle it out, don't pull it out quickly or you might break the fabric. You can see I fix it several times in the video.
  8. It might take several hours to install the inserts, after that you will get your unique flexible fabric pixel art. It is really cool!
