Note, this is an evolving model. Keep an eye on the updates list at the bottom here as new features and print profiles are being added regularly.
This is “The Mod Rack”. It is a modular handgun storage solution designed to fit a multitude of different pistols utilizing either the generic shaped plates or custom sized ones for the perfect fit. The lower tray can also accommodate multiple inserts like mag holders, ammo trays, tools etc. This is a work in progress, and I'll be updating it as needed based on feedback received.
The Mod Rack has a light weight design to keep your filament usage down. The tower uses 40g and the lower tray 46g and the plates are about 7g.
Advantages of The Mod Rack
Printing info
I’ve been printing these with the 0.24 draft mode. 0.20 works just fine too though, it just adds a bit more printing time but you will have a bit nicer finish. I was trying to find a good middle ground where the parts fit snug, but not too loose or too tight. I’ve used 4 brands of filament, 3 different types and 3 printers and I think I got it dialed in pretty closely. But, I will probably make a tower with slightly looser and tighter fitment at the bottom if people are having issues.
I have found that having your printer properly calibrated and making sure the filament isn’t over or under extruding helps a lot. Also it your tower to base is a bit too loose for you, a drop of super glue will take care of it. If you are over extruding, the connectors might need a bit of force to install. I over extruded a few to see if they would fit, and it’s tight, but they go in.
Using the Bambu slicer, you can add text to the tray if you like.
Plate sizing
I made a variety of plates that should cover most semi autos that have a slide width between 23mm and 30.5mm. Just measure the width of your slide and print out the appropriate size plates that you need. For example, the Sig p365 uses the 23.5mm plate and the Glock 19 uses the 26mm one.
If you would like to make a custom plate, I’ve included the dimensions for the ones I’ve been making.
