Smart Magnetic Labels with Hidden RFID Tags

September 24, 2024
Description
Never run out of anything again! These smart magnetic labels can be used all over the home, but I use mine to label common food items and consumables (e.g. dishwasher tablets) in the kitchen. When they run low I can tap my phone on the label (which contains a hidden RFID tag) and it will automatically be added to my shopping list via Home Assistant. The labels naturally also work as simple magnetic labels if you don't want to include the RFID tag, which means they can be easily moved around.
Requirements
- Two magnets per label (d=15mm x h=4mm). Available from Amazon: https://amzn.to/3TFpLrg
- One RFID tag per label (25mm NTAG213). Available from Amazon: https://amzn.to/3ZGvQaJ
- One 4cm x 3cm sticky label (or smaller!). Visit https://handsonkatie.com/recommended-products/ for my latest recommended label machine.
How to make
- To add the magnets, pause the print at layer 27 (based on 0.2mm layer height). A magnet must be added to both parts. It doesn't matter which way around the magnets go as I've designed it to work either way.
- To make your label smart, add in an RFID tag on top of the magnet inside the label front (the rectangular part).
- Resume the print.
- It's very simple to add a pause point in Bambu Studio - see the following wiki to find out how: https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/software/bambu-studio/view-slicing-information#:~:text=Right%2Dclick%20the%20%22%2B%22%20and%20you%20can%20use%20the,stop%20before%20printing%20layer%20one
