Description
Note: This is for cantilever, not floating regions. It's impossible to print in mid-air, but it is possible to print horizontally. It's been done with metal countless times before, and I've just brought PLA (and other 3D printing materials) into the mix!
I've created the ultimate 0.2mm layer preset that allows for the printing of a small amount of floating cantilever while minimally affecting the rest of the print. Imagine that: Printing in mid-air with almost no connection to the main body!
Bambu Studio just released a new setting: “over 100% wall (not bridge)" and if cantilever is accounted for in the slicer, then users need to use it. So I did just that. I made a few key adjustments to ensure success when printing such overhangs, and not just rectangular ones. This preset is designed to hold up in any design you want (provided that the overhang won't defy gravity).
While there may be some small issues, this is better quality than any other method of printing cantilever there is.
How To Use:
This model is designed to use wall loops to create a rising pattern that is then flattened as the printer layers on the overhang. As the overhang increases, please increase wall loops so that the bridge line type is contained within the solid base of the project. This ensures that the overhang is not printed in mid air (also another good way to check if you did it right) and that the base is sufficiently large enough to support the overhang.
DISCLAIMER: This is not a perfect replacement for supports, but it works very well even without them. At the very least, it minimizes supports so they only support corners instead of the whole surface.
Enjoy and have fun working with your models!
