Description

If you’re a parent of a toddler, you know the constant struggle of finding yet another spot in the house your child can get into, even after you’ve already put locks on everything. After seeing how well my cabinet and drawer locks were received, I wanted to share another of my personal designs that we rely on at home. This particular model is for securing sliding closet doors and has been a game-changer in keeping our little one out of places he shouldn’t be.

This version is the result of several tweaks, and after extensive real-life testing (courtesy of my child), it’s the most durable one I’ve made so far. If you find an improvement or print profile that works well, feel free to share. I printed it in ABS, though PLA might also work depending on your setup. If you need more strength, you can experiment with higher-strength resins like CF or GF. I’ve set the print orientation to maximize durability, but you’re welcome to adjust and share your experience with others. Since the weakest part of a print is typically where layers adhere, I’ve worked to minimize layer lines parallel to stress points. The only breakage I’ve had was when I accidentally stepped on the U-lock tab when I dropped it on the floor in the middle of the night, but otherwise, it’s been rock solid. The clips were designed for 6 x ½ sheet metal screws, but any screw that fits the recesses should do the trick.

What I really like about these brackets is their versatility. You can install them in various orientations, so they work for different door setups. We use them on our child’s dual track sliding closet doors, but you could also mount them on the front of doors that share a single track. I’ve attached a picture showing how we have ours installed.

Note: If you have issues with adhesion on the brackets when orientated standing up you can add a brim for more support. I was able to print with my setup, material and plate without having to add a brim luckily.
