Description

My hometown region is called the Ozarks which are a beautiful collection of hills, lakes, rivers, springs, caves and bluffs. Our forests contain dogwood, loblolly pine and oak dreams among many other types.

This book nook uses two LED lights to simulate both the sunset and the dappled light you see through the trees in the forest. The two trees in the front overlap the sides slightly so that this model can blend in with the books around it.

Parts

  1. Base
  2. Lid
  3. Insert for dappled light
  4. Top light gel
  5. Mountains a, b and c
  6. Sky
  7. Branches
  8. Assembly pegs
  9. LED kit (not pictured)

Assembly

Insert the sky, mountain & branch pieces as shown.

  • Note the orientation for each branch as they can only be inserted in a single direction.
  • You can mix and match the branches to find the look you'd like.
  • Attach a power cable to the middle connector in the LED panel and connect it to the other LED panel
  • Insert the second LED, light gel and insert into the lid.
  • Use the pegs to align and attach the lid to the base.
  • Glue shouldn't be necessary but is optional.
  • Plug in the power for one of the LEDs and slided in the back behind the sky.

Printing tips

  • The model as pictured was printed using Polyterra filaments and painted with green and gray acrylics.
  • For the sunset background, I used a Polyterra gradient filament. If using color changing filament, you may need to print an additional model of the same height so that your color transition feels the good in space.
  • You may want to print the branches with a 0.2 nozzles as they contain some delicate detail.
  • The top light gel is optional but can make sure that the LED is casting similar colors to your sunset.
  • The sunset lithophane was made using MakerWorld-Make My Lithophane (https://makerworld.com/makerlab/makeMyLithophane). Quixel scans were utilized for tree and ground textures.
