Description

This model was created to be used as a wall hanger or decoration. As the model was being created additional components were made so it could be used as a desk ornament. The main body of the model is approximately 90mm (~3.5in) in diameter. The components were designed to avoid the need of an AMS and to minimize the need for sanding, painting or gluing*.

*Note: Some sanding, painting, gluing may be required pending on print quality, support adhesion, desired strength, desired overall appearance, or purpose of use.

Components have been separated to different plates based on intended color. The tongue has been oriented horizontally to provide the most strength and avoid shear lines due to layer lines. If used simply for decoration, a vertical orientation will provide a higher quality look and likely less support cleanup. A plate with the tongue in the vertical orientation has not been included in the print profile.

Print the components on the Hanger Plate as needed.

  • The 3M-hanger part can be used to hang the model with large/medium command strips.
    • Large command strips are recommended if using the model as a coat hanger. The large strip should sit flush to all sides of the groove in the hanger part. The tab from the large strip will show from beneath the model. Cutting the tab slightly above the 3M will keep it hidden while still allowing something for removal use.

    • The medium strips should suffice if the model is being used for decoration. Use the image below for rough placement of a medium sized strip.

  • The connector part or stand can be used to join the front assembly with the tail parts for a stand alone display on desk or shelf.

Steps for front assembly after printing parts:

  1. Take the mouth part, with the flat face oriented towards you and insert the eye parts into slots. Use the “L” (left) and “R” (right) on the bottom of the eye parts to insert the proper parts into each slot. Front of the eye parts should be flush with the eyes on the mouth part.

  1. Flip over the mouth part and insert the teeth into the slot under the top lip of the mouth.

  1. Grab the face part with some in the palm of your hand. Insert the bottom of the mouth part into the back of the face part and pivot downward. Try to keep the eyes and eye slots aligned. When properly aligned, press the mouth part into place. The eyes on the mouth should be flush to the rest of the face.

  1. Grab the back plate and insert into the back of the face part. The peg on the back plate should go through the oval in the mouth part.

  1. Flip assembly and grab tongue part. Insert the tongue part into the mouth and push into place. The peg on the back plate should slot into the cavity of the tongue part.

The hanger part, the connector part, or the stand should be able to slot into the back of the assembly and tail parts with slight resistance.

I have not tried scaling the model. I don't recommend scaling down the model since it will likely create super thin walls. Upscaling will likely increase the gap between parts and require gluing and/or filler for a strong good looking model.
