The Book of Bambu - A Filament Sample Stacking Game

Transform your filament samples into an engaging tabletop experience with this unique dual-purpose game! Housed in a beautifully designed vintage book-style case, this creation combines filament sample organization with entertaining gameplay. For makers who love to showcase their printing capabilities while having fun!

Challenge your friends and family to an exciting battle of steady hands and strategic thinking while checking out which filament colors to use on your next project! Take turns stacking your filament samples while following the die's commands. But beware - one wrong move could bring your tower tumbling down. Comment what variations of the game that you've played or what we should add to the official game rules!

Want to make your own dice for the game? Use our popular dice customizer: Custom Dice! Design Yours on MakerWorld by ozarkexpeditions - MakerWorld and set the size to about 18mm to fit into the slot in the book.

Components

  • 1 Two-part Book-Shaped Storage Box with Internal Filament Organization

  • 1 Custom Game Die
  • 2 Starting Platform Spools
  • 8 5x2mm round magnets - here is our amazon link to our go-to multi-pack of magnets https://amzn.to/4em7R4K or find this at the Maker's Supply link below.
  • Bambu Lab Filament Swatches

Original Game Rules

Objective: The first player to knock over a filament tower loses the game.

Taking Turns:

  • Open the book and set out each spool in front of each player.
  • The youngest player will roll the dice first to determine the first play.
  • On a player's turn, they roll the die to determine their action. Based on the result, they can:
    • Add 1 tile to your own stack – The player places one tile onto their own stack.
    • Add 2 tiles to your own stack – The player places two tiles onto their own stack.
    • Add 1 tile to your opponent's stack – The player places one tile onto their opponent's stack, trying to make it more unstable.
    • Add 2 tiles to your opponent's stack – The player places two tiles onto their opponent's stack, increasing the challenge for their opponent.
    • Remove 1 tile from your own stack – The player removes one tile from their own stack, possibly stabilizing their structure.
    • Remove 1 tile from your opponent's stack – The player removes one tile from their opponent's stack, potentially making it more unstable.
  • When All Pieces are Used:
    • Add 1 or 2 tiles to your own or opponent's stack – If the player rolls a result that would normally require them to add tiles and there are no tiles left, their turn is skipped.
    • Remove 1 tile from your own or opponent's stack – These actions continue as normal, and the player must remove a tile from the indicated stack.

Additional Rules:

  • Players may only touch the tower when removing a filament swatch. When placing tiles, players must do so without touching any of the previously placed swatches.

Game Rule Variations

  • Fastest Stacker: Split the filament swatches into two equal piles and race against your opponent to see who can stack all 40 tiles the quickest without toppling their tower. Speed and precision are key—knock it over, and you're out!
  • Single Platform Showdown: Ditch the dual platforms and compete head-to-head on a single spool platform. Both players take turns stacking swatches on the same tower, and the first to cause it to collapse loses. Can you outmaneuver your opponent while keeping the tower steady?

Assembly

Putting the game together is really simple - just put four magnets in each side of the book and ensure the correct orientation of the magnets so that it holds the book cover and “pages” together. The magnets should not require glue as they have been designed to press-fit with a small tool or scrap price of printed parts. Just ensure they are oriented in the right direction to hold the book together.

Putting the spool pieces together is just like putting a miniature refill onto a spool.

Feedback

As with all our designs, your feedback is invaluable. We're always looking for ways to improve and enhance our games. If you have any suggestions, comments, or ideas for this game, please don't hesitate to share them.
