Description

This is a 3D model of a Powdered Sugar Sifter designed to resemble Santa Claus hat. To achieve the look of a Santa hat, you'll need both white and red filament. I tested the design with both PLA and PETG, both work fine. The inner part of the sifter is designed to provide clearance between the moving parts, preventing the plastic from scraping and creating small particles.

The assembly video you can find on my youtube channel 'MM3D Workshop'. Or read the asembly manual with photos below.

4.11.2024. UPDATE IN DESIGN AND PRINT PROFILE

(made improvement in design of upper body ‘click-in part’ and the ball to prevent breaking, tested in 4 different filaments: Bambu Lab Basic PLA, Creality Hyper PLA, Elegoo Rapid PETG, and PLA Silk (the most brittle), and all worked like a charm). Happy printing, and I apologize for any inconvenience the weak top may have caused. Thanks for understanding!

Print Instructions:

All parts should be printed with 3 walls and need no more than 15% infill, as the necessary reinforcements are built into the design. For example, the top of the upper body, where the white handle attaches, is designed to deposit extra plastic regardless of your infill setting, making it more robust.

Parts Printed in White: Parts 1-5

  1. Ball Handle: MUST BE PRINTED WITH A BRIM (inner).
If you make the textured version like I did, enable the "fuzzy skin" option in your slicer for parts 1, 2, and 3. Use the following settings:
    • Fuzzy Skin: Contour
    • Point Distance: 0.25
    • Thickness: 0.2
  2. Mixer: No supports or special settings needed, just 3 walls.
  3. Shaft: Must be printed horizontally (for strength) with normal supports. After printing, lightly sand the round part of the shaft where the supports were touching to achieve a perfectly round face, ensuring smooth movement when inserted into the lower body (part 7) of the sifter.

Assembly:

If you encounter any stringing on your printed parts, I recommend burning it off with a small kitchen torch—just run the torch quickly over the parts, and the stringing should disappear.

  1. Take part 1 (the Ball Handle) and remove the brim. Scrape off any residue with a deburring tool or knife. Clean well to remove all small plastic particles, and blow inside to clear out any dust.
  2. Take part 6 (Body UP) and push it into the ball handle until you hear a locking click. Rotate the ball 20 times or as needed to remove any printing imperfections from the inside and ensure the handle fits well. After that, wash the connected parts to clear out any plastic inside the handle for smooth operation.

3. Grab the shaft (part 5) and remove all supports. Pay attention to the area that touched the supports; it may need sanding to ensure it’s perfectly round for easy movement inside the lower body.

4. Take the lower body and the sanded shaft, and check if the shaft moves smoothly inside the body. If it doesn’t, sand the round part of the shaft a bit more.

Check that the shaft moves perfectly in the lower body before connecting it to the upper body, you will not be able to disconnect it once it clicks in place into the upper body (or will disconnect very hard)

5. Note that the upper part of the body (where the handle is connected) has letters A and B at the bottom, marking the sides of the hole for the shaft. The shaft also has corresponding letters. Insert the shaft through the lower body, aligning A and B sides with the upper body. Push the shaft in until it clicks into place.

6. Insert the mixer (part 4) into the shaft.

7. Take the sieve (part 2) and screw it onto the bottom of the sifter. If your printer is well calibrated, it should screw in easily. If not, screw it on and off a few times to engage the threads properly.

8. Finally, wash the entire sifter to remove any plastic dust, ensuring all parts operate smoothly.

I hope you all like it!

Enjoy!
