Description
The son of a colleague kept breaking off the ears on the bridge supports of his train set. So she asked me if I could print some replacements. I used the supplied sample and recreated a functionally identical support. The one pictured in the comparison is v1.0 with a continuous ledge at the top (the idea was to maximize strength and reduce risk of breaking). That worked great with straight tracks, but not with corners. v2.0 shortened the ears to the original length (while retaining the beefed up width), to also allow for use on corner tracks. It should be compatible with the typical wooden train track sets like Brio, IKEA Lillabo etc.
This here is now v3.0, which includes matching cutouts on the bottom, to allow for the supports to be stacked. Clearance is 0.25mm on all sides. But depending on your material and printer, it might be a tight fit. I have included the Fusion360 file in case anyone wants to mess with the dimensions, or use this as a basis for a remix.
I print them in Sunlu Easy ABS. The print profile only contains Generic ABS, because I can't upload a 3MF file with custom filament settings (EABS prints at lower temps due to the 15% TPU content). The design should also work in PLA or PETG. But if you are using PLA, maybe increase the wall count and infill a bit. EABS is extremely tough, so I only use 10% infill with 3 walls.
