This Lid Extension is similar to the first version. It has been redesigned for printability with minimal support. It also fits the needs of the X1 series, mainly power and wire access at the rear.
Again, the assembly is simple and is now more modular. The unit now has the four corners that can be printed upright for a better radius on the rear corners. This leaves sides that are equal in length.
The sides (Front, Rear, Left and Right) are interchangeable so custom cutouts and features can be added for future designs. You can replace a side without having to print the entire assembly.
This first release is the base design.
It will include the Rear side with a 3/8” hole for cable egress and a plug if you not going to use it right away (or you can use a blank side).
It will include a blank Front side and a Front side with a cutout to fit a Hygrometer/temp as an option.
The Left and Right sides in the base model are blank. Later options could include vents in later releases.
All of the sides are embossed with identifiers (RR, RL, FR, FL corners and L, R, Rear, Front sides)
You can use M3-.05 screws to fasten everything together
Use weather stripping (1/2” x 1/16”) for the top lid. Do not cover the clearance on the Front side (clearance for the hardware on the lid)
Update 1
Added Front side option (side_front_led_control.stl) to give an option to use the LED Strip used on the P1 series. The BOM (Rev 2) has been updated to show the added option and the source for the LED Strip.
Update 2
Added the side vent options (side_left_vent_x1 and side_right_vent_x1) and added another front side option (side_front_led_hygro_x1) which provides cut-outs for the LED control and Hygrometer.
I printed with ASA with no problems. I had better looking results with PLA-CF with a nice matte finish. Of course, you can choose whatever color you want.
No specific LED strip is referenced.
Choose an LED strip and use an external power source (USB, 12V or 24V)
An option is the BL LED Controller. It needs 24V power supply and mounts on the rear of the printer.
(I will be installing the BL LED Controller and flashing the firmware in an upcoming video, so stay tuned)
The Print Profile will be on three plates.
