Description
This model is for those who have a love-hate relationship with their apple iMac magic keyboard and mouse.
I have an 2019 iMac 5K retina, i9 72gb ram and a 1TB ssd. Its an absolute beast and I use it for photo, video editing and lately have been using it for 3d modeling and design. Needless to say it doesn't even break a sweat. I love every aspect of it except for the angle that the magic keyboard and trackpad sits. The magic mouse is an entirely different problem in itself (which i solved using this print profile - https://makerworld.com/en/models/733780?from=search#profileId-665535).
I scoured the internet for a better print for the keyboard and mouse, but was not satisfied with the designs. I am not saying they are bad, I was just not satisfied. I wanted something minimalistic, ergonomic and easy to print profile.
Note: I have used the reference angle from the Logitech Mx Mechanical Mini (the other keyboard i love).
So I built one myself from scratch. Hope you folks like it and boost me if you do.
Update: I have added another print profile (see the 2nd profile) for the Apple Magic keyboard with the numpad. (the longer version). You need 4 pairs of magnets in this case where as the mini only needs 3 pairs.
I would kindly recommend 4 things to the folks who want to print this:
- Ensure you print the profile in the same orientation with the settings as listed in the profile. I have set the detail to extra high when simplifying the model to ensure better quality print.
- This profile needs 6x3 mm magnets that will keep the keyboard base in place. Make sure to use good quality powerful magnets so they stay in place. Also just pop them in place using a flat object (I used a scale), Its a tight tolerance so no need to use any adhesives (but that would be optional)
- If you do not want the keyboard and base to move - add a anti-slip tape at the bottom (again Optional)
- Printing the wrist rest is entirely optional. But I am glad I did. It was an accidental test profile and it added to the ergonomics when using the track pad.
Disclaimer: This is just an elevation base for the magic keyboard and trackpad. There are no clips/latches that will hold the keyboard and track pad in place. The Keyboard and trackpad just sit on an angle rather than sitting directly on the table. As long as one have it on a flat surface/table, it will be great.
