Flexi Christmas flower (Poinsettia)

This elegant poinsettia features articulated, print-in-place leaves, allowing you to adjust them for a customizable and lifelike arrangement. The model is designed to be printed in single color per build plate with no AMS needed, except for the small flowers in the center. These are separate 4 color parts (dark green, light green, yellow, red) that have to be glued in place, but they can also be printed in a single color without losing much of the esthetic.

Each stem requires one small flower (four in total), but since I’m printing multiple plants for friends and family, I batch-print them to save filament. That’s why the profile includes 12 additional hidden flowers.

When glueing the small flowers, align them by locating the small bulge in the hexagon shape to ensure correct orientation.

The stems have custom support for stability that snaps right of after printing.

 

How to assemble:

The leaves are printed independently from the stem and are easy to assemble. To attach a leaf, place your hand upside down, position the leaf on top, and gently press it with your thumb to slightly bend it in half. Then, insert the leaf into the stem for a secure fit.

The intricate details and realistic design make it a beautiful addition to holiday decorations. To complete the look of this festive piece I used the woven basket planter designed by JamesThePrinter. The link is at the bottom. Just scale it up to 121.4%. Also, if you are using Orca slicer, I recommend enabling “Make overhangs printable”.

The included insert features a soil-like surface achieved with the fuzzy skin setting and fits snugly into the planter with a press fit. For added weight, I used 50x17x2.8 mm washers, which are placed at the bottom of the insert and secured with the included screw before inserting it into the planter. Use a wide, flat-head screwdriver to fasten the screw securely. 

The weight is not needed to keep it standing but gives it a nice feel when handling.

I highly recommend using my print profile. The settings are basic but include patterned top and bottom surfaces of the leaves, added mouse ears and brim where necessary, and a fuzzy skin modifier for the insert.

Update 16.12.2024.
To address the tipping issue with the stems, I added three new plates, each offering a different level of support. I haven’t experienced tipping myself, even with the lowest level of support, so I can’t say for certain, but hopefully, this will be sufficient for everyone.
