LED Candles with Magnetic Matches to "light" them

One of my favorite things about Bambu Labs (besides their printers😍) is the Maker Supply section of their website. If you haven’t checked it out - you need to! One of the items I found there were these LED lights with magnetic control switches (they come in 3 styles and 2 sizes and different colors). When a magnet is held near the lights, it turns them on or off. I thought designing a candle with a magnetic match to ‘light’ would be a fun way to use them.

When I first started designing these candles, I only planned to design one 😂 My plan was to use the smaller light and position it in the flame tip because that's where you technically would hold a match to light a candle wick. But it wasn’t quite as bright as I hoped. So I decided to design a second candle with the bigger light at the base to illuminate the whole candle. It was brighter but was not as ‘accurate’ with regards to where you hold the match for lighting. Although the second style was not as ‘accurate’ I decided to keep it because I liked it. That's how I ended up with two candle models:)

So, I have included files for both styles of candles:

Candle Style #1 contains the bigger LED light

Maker Supply offers two styles of these lights:

Y Shaped LED Light with Magnetic Control Switch (two shades of white offered)

Ring LED Magnetic Control Switch Light (five different colors available)

Candle Style #2 contains the smaller LED light:

Single LED Magnetic Control Switch Light (5 different colors available)

PLA works great (I used PLA metal or silk for the candle holders, PLA basic for the candles and flames, and PLA matte for the matches and matchbox)

Layer Height 0.2mm

Infill 15%

Supports needed on some of the parts (see details below)

LED lights and 6x3mm Neodymium Magnets (one for each match)

Print Plate #1: Candle Style #1(candle + flame), two colors, supports added

Print Plate # 2: Candle Style #1(candle holder), one color, supports added

Print Plate # 3: Candle Style #2 (candle + candle holder): two colors, supports added

Print Plate # 4: Candle Style #2 (flame); one color

Print Plate # 5: Match Tips, one color, pause print added at layer 23 (layer height 4.60mm) to insert 6 x 3 neodymium magnets)

Print Plate # 6: Match Sticks, one color: supports added

Print Plate # 7: Match Box Insert, one color

Print Plate # 8: Match Box Cover, one color

To Assemble Candle Style #1:

Insert the bigger style LED light into the top of the candle holder and twist and lock the candle into place.

To Assemble Candle Style #2:

Insert the smaller style LED light into the bottom of the flame and then twist and lock the flame into the top of the candle.

To Print/Assemble the Matches:

To insert the magnets during the print, pause the print at layer 23 (layer height 4.6mm), insert the magnets and resume printing. After you are done printing the magnet tips and sticks, insert the stick into the tip. You can add some super glue if you’d like:)

12/18/2024 I have added new designs for the Matches and Matchbox to be used with 8x2mm neodymium magnets. (My original profile is for 6x3mm magnets.) I added these new files because each LED Light with Magnetic Control Switch comes with a 8x2mm magnet. (I have a collection of these lights and use them with all different size magnets - but I forgot they come with an 8x2mm magnet 😩) So since each light comes with a 8x2mm magnet it makes sense to use that magnet in the matches.  I am also leaving the print profile for the 6x3mm magnets if you would like to use those 🧲
