⚠️ Warning: Safety First! ⚠️

LiPo batteries are no joke—don’t short them or mishandle them unless you enjoy fireworks. This mod is tested only on the specific sensor I used; I can’t guarantee it works on other versions. Proceed with caution, curiosity, and maybe some fireproof gloves.

How to Mod Your Sensor with a Vape Battery

Tired of replacing button batteries? Let’s hack that weak power source and swap in a vape LiPo battery! Bonus: it’s not rocket science, and it’ll save you battery-swapping headaches.

What You’ll Need

  • LiPo battery (from a vape or similar—spicy voltage included).
  • 1N4148 diode (optional but great for taming that juice).
  • Soldering iron and wire cutters (your trusty tools of chaos).

The Issue

LiPo batteries output up to 4.2V fully charged—more than the sensor’s comfy zone of 3V-3.2V. While your sensor can handle 4.2V, unused LCD segments might faintly appear like ghostly intruders. To nix this, use a diode to drop voltage by ~0.6V. Or don’t—if ghost segments don’t haunt you.

Steps to Mod Your Sensor

  1. Prep the Battery
Snip the positive lead. Leave the negative lead alone—it’s innocent (for now).
  2. (Optional) Add a Diode
Solder a 1N4148 diode in series with the positive lead.
    • Pro Tip: Make sure the black band faces the sensor. No reverse voltage hijinks allowed!
  3. Wire It Up
    • Connect the positive lead (via diode, if used) to the sensor’s positive terminal.
    • Connect the negative lead directly to the sensor’s negative terminal.
  4. Double-Check Everything
Make sure all connections are solid—no room for shaky soldering jobs here!

To Diode or Not to Diode?

  • Without a diode: You’ll get the full 4.2V (less if it’s from a used vape). Expect faint LCD ghosting.
  • With a diode: Voltage drops to ~3.6-3.7V, keeping the display crystal clear.

Safety Tips (Because Explosions Are Bad)

  • Use a partially charged battery if unsure.
  • Don’t exceed 4.2V (the sensor might survive, but why risk it?).
  • Keep LiPos away from heat, sharp objects, or anything explosive—you like your workspace in one piece, right?

Congratulations! You’ve now upgraded your sensor into a long-lasting, vape-powered workhorse. Whether you embrace the full voltage or tame it with a diode, your button battery struggles are officially over. Happy modding! 🚀
