Sunlu Heater Dual AMS Rack / AMS 2 Pro Handles that match my original tray handles / Funnel to fill the Rear Assembly with sand.

Drawer slide hole template to verify correct hole spacing (3D printable as well as 2D paper printable templates).

Before you begin printing

Please make sure you can purchase and receive drawer slides.

Please also use the supplied 3D printable templates or the 2D PDF printable template/dimensions to verify the mounting holes will work.

Thanks.

Dual AMS rack with soft close drawer slides

Allows the storage of 2 AMS units ( or even 3 or 4, see below) stacked on top of each other for tighter spaces while still allowing the lids to open for loading and unloading of filament spools.

Assembly Animation

Fits ALL AMS units

(Original AMS, AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT, Sunlu AMS Heater

Minimal hardware needed (Drawer Slides, Heat inserts and Screws)

No supports needed.

No Glue needed.

Sunlu AMS Heater Dual Rack

There is now a print profile “Sunlu Heater Dual AMS Rack” available. Modified to accept the Sunlu AMS Heater. The top sections were raised 14mm for clearance. Everything else is the same as the original rack. Top and Bottom Trays are also the same - No change.

The original assembly drawing for the Dual AMS Rack can be used as a visual for assembly, All items numbers from the drawing match the item numbers on the print plates inside the print profile.

*If modifying an existing rack to accept the Sunlu Heater. The 4 top side pieces of the rack are the only parts that will need to be re-printed from this print profile. The rest of your already printed rack will align and fit correctly.

AMS-HT Top Tray

Original Design:

Updated: Design:

Print Profile named “AMS Tray-Top-HT”

The HT Tray currently can only be used as a Top Tray.

The HT is about .750" (19mm) taller than the original AMS units. So it will not fit on the bottom of the rack with the current 256mm build plate print profiles and available configurations.

Modifications to the orignal trays include:

-Moved the tray forward .500" (12.7mm) to give the bus cables and power cables a little more clearance from the back assembly.

-Added Heat Inserts and screws to the Bowties. This was needed because the center HT was not supported by the Right & Left pieces and would cause the Front and Back pieces to fall out.

-Added chamfers to all Heat Insert holes to prevent plastic from oozing out and having to be trimmed. Worked well in my tests. I may update the rest of the Rack and Trays to have these chamfers.

-Created a Heat Insert test piece to do some practicing on that includes the chamfers. I will also add this to the Rack and other tray print profiles in the future.

2026-05-25 - Updated the HT Tray - Added cutouts for the bottom Air Inlet holes. Also added dividers/stabilizers in the center to secure the HT units a little better.

AMS 2 Pro Trays

https://makerworld.com/en/models/1287234-ams-2-pro-trays-for-dual-ams-sliding-rack#profileId-1316651

- These trays use the same hardware listed here as well as the original rack. So the rack can be mixed and matched between AMS units if you'd like. Thanks to Print3DZ for taking the time to modify the original trays for me.

3 AMS and 4 AMS Rack configurations

3 AMS and 4 AMS rack configurations are now possible with the Multi-Unit Mod! See the documentation below for the correct parts list.

*Note: The Riser above the 2nd AMS is necessary for the lid on the 2nd AMS to open fully and stay open on its own.

The racks can be assembled without using the riser and still allow the 2nd AMS to open, it may not stay open on its own though.

Stationary Top Rack

A french cleat stationary mount for the top rack is available if sliding out the top rack isn't necessary in your space.

Uses all the same hardware, Just removes one set of drawer slides needed.

This may also remove the need to fill the rear supports with sand, since the weight of the top AMS should balance out the bottom one when extended.

New Handles available!

Original AMS Handles

These are included in the AMS Tray-Top & AMS Tray-Bottom print profiles along with the original tray fronts without the handle.

Lids still open fully and stay open on their own.

If replacing an original tray front without the handle for this handle version, Just reprint the front piece (it's interchangeable between the Top and Bottom tray), Remove the AMS unit. wiggle the original front piece out and pop the new one in. No need to disassemble the entire tray or drawer slides.

AMS 2 Pro Tray Handles

I've uploaded a print profile for matching handles that will fit the AMS 2 Pro (Remixed) Trays.

They're located in their own Print profile named “AMS 2 Pro Tray Handle - Top and Bottom Tray”

Updated Rear Assembly - Bus Cable Clearance

Made a few improvements to the Rear Assembly ( The sections that get filled with sand). There were concerns that the Bus cables being bent up against the original Rear Assembly may cause issues. I don't believe this was going to be an issue and the originals will be fine to continue using, but better to be safe than sorry. Working on these also led to a few other modification while I was at it.

*If reprinting these to replace the original design, it is really only necessary to print a set for each Top Tray you have. There is plenty of clearance behind the Bottom Trays for the Bus Cables.

The Rear Assembly has been notched in the center to allow the Bus cables to pass through.

The notches on top used for the Corner supports were duplicated down to the bottom which will allow supports in every corner to help with stability. The corner supports have been moved to the AMS Rack print profile and grouped in 4ps = 1 Set. If adding more Supports to a current setup, please make sure you are printing the correct ones.

Changed the Sealed cap to a removable sliding cap.

Had a suggestion to create a funnel for filling the Rear Assembly full of sand.

It slides in and snaps in place just like the cover does.

There is a separate Print Profile labeled “Funnel"

H2D Rack Risers / General Purpose Risers

Risers slip right under the Rack and provide a lift high enough to clear the H2D's pop-up vent as well as the top lid handle. These would be best printed in a material suited for higher temperatures if they are sitting on top of the H2D. The risers can also be scaled in the Z-Axis to any height needed, taller or shorter which can be helpful if you have an uneven work surface and need just a little extra height so the bottom tray doesn't drag. There is a print profile for the 256mm build plates assembled with bowties as well as a print profile for the H2D which are one piece with no assembly. Thanks to user Print3DZ for printing and testing these out and providing pictures.

General Info:

Cleaning:

Prints are large. So I'd recommend cleaning the build plate with soap and water between each print to prevent the parts from lifting.

Bowtie Installation:

Tolerances are tight on the bowties to prevent any movement when installed. A small rubber mallet may be needed to seat the bowties into the parts.

Heat Inserts:

MAXIMUM Heat Insert Lengths:

Rack = 6mm Long

Trays = 4mm Long

Heat Insert Hole Dimensions - Rack

Heat Insert Hole Dimensions - Trays (Top and Bottom)

I'd now recommend purchasing and installing 4mm Long Heat inserts for everything to prevent any bulging on the tray assemblies. The wall thickness behind the heat insert hole on the trays is only .060" (1.52mm) vs. the wall thickness behind the heat insert holes on the Rack at 0.510" (12.95mm)

If you've already purchased or have only 6mm Long heat inserts, Use caution on the trays, do not insert them past flush or they will show on the back side. Play it safe and use 4mm long all around.

Important! - The rear supports for the rack are hollow. They must be filled with sand (AFTER PRINTING AND OFF THE BUILDPLATE) to add weight to the rack to prevent tipping when the top AMS is pulled out. After filling with sand, super-glue the caps on to seal them up. Each rear assembly weights 2.134lb (968g) after being filled. There is one assembly on top and bottom for a total of 4.268lbs (1,936g). This has worked well for loading and unload filament from the top tray when fully extended. Even with spool weights in spools the rack should not tip over at all. *Updated Weight for the new Rear Assembly with the Bus Cable Notch is 950g each assembly.

Do not extended both the top and bottom tray at one time. One at a time!

*Important! - The use of the CatTongue grip tape (or equivalent) on the bottom of the rack may be necessary to keep the rack from sliding when pulling the soft close drawers out, they require a little force. The CatTongue is super thin and does not budge at all…. even with an empty rack I can pull the trays out without the rack slipping on the desktop surface. (Not affiliated with this brand. Used it and it worked well.)

Everything printed in PLA - I've been using mine since 6/22/24 with no issues to date - I'll update if there are any that come up.

I've included assembly drawings of the AMS Rack, Top Tray and Bottom Tray, Stationary Mount, 3 AMS Rack and 4 AMS Rack as well as the Drawer Slide bolt locations  in the documentation section below.

Drawer Slide Mounting Hole Verification

Printable PDF (Scaled at 100% or 1:1)

Allows you to place a fully extended drawer slide on top to visually verify the holes will line up with the Rack and Trays

Rack Mounting Holes

*Note that the Rack Mount Holes drawing has a break to allow it to fit on a standard sheet of printer paper.

Follow Steps 1-3 to measure out the middle mounting hole in order to place the drawer slide in the correct position to verify the two holes on the right side.

Tray Mounting Holes

All four mounting hole should line up.

3D Printable Template

The downloadable PDF has all the information for placing each printed template in the correct location to verify mounting hole are correct.

*Drawer slides referenced here are Vadania #VK1245 14"/350mm Length

This will be in a separate print profile

As I add other drawer slides manufactures to the print profiles I will include the correct printable templates along with them.
