75mm Reusable Spool

This is the equivalent of the Bambulab Refillable Spool but for eSun cardboard spools.

WARNING: this model applies only to eSun cardboard spools with a 75mm core diameter, please read below before proceeding.

eSun filaments are a cheap alternative and are easy to source from Amazon, but the cardboard spools are not AMS-friendly and can also get easily damaged while shipping. I find all the so-called adapters unreliable inside the AMS and re-spooling is often a messy job, so I decided to design this.

Some eSun cardboard spools have a smaller core inner diameter when compared to Bambulab refills so, before ripping off the cardboard shoulders from the filament spool I strongly advise checking the spool core inner diameter using the Spool Core ID Tester: if the measured diameter is 75mm then this model, as an adaptation of the printable version of the Bambulab Refillable Spool, can come to the rescue.

Print Material

If you want to dry your filament please consider using the softening temperature of the material you made your refillable spool: as an example, a spool made of PLA will soften up at drying temperature for PETG.

Using

Usage should be very easy:

1. (optional) use some paper tape to secure the filament in the cardboard spool
2. rip off one side of the cardboard spool
3. slide in the male side (the taller one) while firmly holding the filament
4. flip the spool
5. rip off the other side
6. slide in the female side (the shorter one) still holding firmly the filament
7. find the correct alignment between the sides so that they slide into each other
8. turn the two sides until they snap and lock in position
9. enjoy your new spool!

Style

Some variations are provided, all reducing the amount of filament required to print compared to a completely solid spool, but also to comply with personal stylish preferences:

• the Hex profile has 6 wide spokes
• the Rad profile encompasses a pattern similar to the radiation warning sign
• the Spots profile aims at approximately reproducing the official Bambula Refillable Spools, but compromising on print time and reliability
• the Wheel profile is one of my favourites, with five quite wide openings
• the Tri profile combines three slots with three openings
