Description

The aerial screw is a project conceived by Leonardo da Vinci and described on folio 83v of Manuscript B, written during his first stay in Milan.

In this study of an aerial screw, Leonardo comes to hypothesize and formulate centuries in advance the negotiating effectiveness of the propeller, conceiving a very similar structure, inspired by the forms of nature and giving substance to his observations on the characteristics of air. In the inventor's intentions, it should have "screwed" into the air by exploiting its density similarly to what a screw does when it penetrates wood.
