Description

If you intend to use this for medical tape, I have uploaded a different model for this purpose: https://makerworld.com/en/models/929077

Note for German users: Most negative scores come from German-speaking users. This leads me to believe that there is a popular brand of tape in that country that it's very difficult to cut. I do recommend a tape below, but this hasn't stopped the complains and sometimes even personal attacks, so please, do not print this model if you intend to use it with German tape, it will not work.

After wrapping a few gifts last night I realized I needed a better solution to hold the tape with my hand while leaving my fingers free to hold the wrap. I've tried some solutions from Maker World but I didn't like any of them, so I decided to make my own.

You might notice that the orientation of the piece doesn't seem to be the most optimal, needing supports for a big part of the design. This is intended, the teeth are much sharper when printed sideways and after some print tests I feel like it is a good compromise. The supports where quite easy to remove and it's less than 4 grams of filament wasted.

Some people have issues cutting the tape, I have tried a few different types and it's true that some types of tape are much harder to cut using plastic. The one I'm using is called “Scotch Magic Tape”, it has a white milky colour. It's very easy to cut with this print, PETG or PLA, I haven't tried other materials.

20/02/2025 Update - If you like Gridfinity, EMB3D has created a useful accessory for this print:

22/02/2025 Update:

Following the feedback received, I made some changes to the model which I'm releasing as a “Version 2”:

  • Slightly bigger radius for the fingers, but grip should still be good.
  • Increased the number of layers and changed infill to cubic to improve strength.
  • Increased the thickness of some areas which should also increase strength.
  • Slightly increase on the cutting teeth angle. Still, it will probably won't cut German tape, so please, don't print it if you intend to use German tape.

This model will consume a bit more filament and time than Version 1. Due to the increase strength it's a bit harder to insert the tape, especially with stiff filaments like PLA, this part wasn't modified in the geometry of the model but the increase in wall loops causes this. If this is an issue for you, reduce “wall loops” to 2 in Bambu Studio.

Right-handed and left-handed models are now in the same profile.

With this version I've decided to join the exclusive model program.

Here's a comparison between the Version 2 and Version 1:

I've added another profile that has a shorter separator between the fingers, this will hopefully help people with bigger hands:
