Compact Case/Diffuser for WS2812B-64 Matrix

This sleek, functional case is designed to house and diffuse the WS2812B-64 LED matrix, delivering clean and vibrant visuals. To achieve distinct, sharp pixels with no light leakage, I used a two-color printing method: white for the initial layers and black for the remaining layers.

Due to slight inconsistencies in the PCB cut, you may need to perform some minor sanding to ensure a snug fit (not my case but…). Assembly is straightforward, requiring just four M3 screws (6-8mm).

Important Note: The pixel clarity in real life is exceptional. The light blur visible in the photos is a result of my phone camera and does not occur in person.

 

All powered by your 5V normal USB charger!

 

Calculations for type this matrix:

• Without the WLED firmware, the current limiter can reach 11W in full white (approximately 5V, 2.2A) per panel.
• With the WLED firmware, when the current limiter is set to 1A, it reaches 2.8W in full white (approximately 5V, 0.5A). However, the limiter is not very accurate.
• Without a current limiter, the panel heats up when displaying full white, which could cause the plastic to melt if left on for too long.
• Without a current limiter but using other colors or effects, it’s hard to exceed 3W.
• A 3x3 matrix at full white can reach 99W, which is over 18A.

Recommendations:

• Use WLED firmware and configure well all the panel 2D pixels to display images (Test the Akemi effect, you will see a image of a Led-man dancing)

• Use software-based current protection in WLED, set between 0.5A and 1A, even for single-panel builds, to prevent overheating. This will still provide high brightness. In 3x3 use 2A limit if you want but with 1A is very bright!
