This is a different hole layout of the Pony Up - A Horse Racing Game Board.
The Kodaxx game board uses a 2-5-7-9-13-16-13-9-7-5-2 board holes. That will give a winning advantage to the 2 and 12 horses. The percentage of winning based on dice rolls for the Kodaxx board are 20-9-10-6-4-2-4-6-10-10-21 (percents).
I have through reading various forums, namely the Pokerchip forum on the web, found a better odds solution. This board layout changes to a 3-5-7-9-11-13-11-9-7-5-2 hole for a winning percentage of 8-10-11-9-8-10-8-9-10-10-8 9 (percents). From the forum, these odds are based on simulation of 10,000 dice rolls and game simulations. (No I did not personally do this)
Also the horses are different than the kodaxx game as these horses do not need any supports, in fact, there are no supports needed for any of these plates. Glue is required for the magnets as well as the horse bases to the horse.
This print consists of the Starting Line, The Finish Line, The Main Board, Quarter Sized Chips and Horses without bases attached, (Must be glued) and Chip Holder. Each Chip Holder will hold 60 Chips. Print as many chips and holders as you think are needed.
Equipment: This Print, Dice, and a Deck of Cards.
The below rules are a version of the game. There are other rules (house rules) that can be found on the internet using all the cards as well as betting on the horses.
Also, I use 6x2 magnets to allow me to snap the boards together. The Start, Finish and Main Board are all separate files.
The Horse Race Game Rules
Before starting the game
- Prepare the dice, a deck of cards, and the Horse Race game board
- Discard the Aces, Kings, and Jokers, and it will leave you with 44 cards.
- Shuffle and Deal the 44 cards. Each player will not necessarily receive the same amount of cards.
- Each player must pay the Entry fee for the race. This is normally set to $1 in play money.
- The Scratch Round
Place the horses at the starting gate.
- Four horses must be scratched before the race starts. The scratched order is as follows:
- The player to the left of the dealer rolls the dice, and the number on the dice will be the first horse to be scratched. That horse is moved back to the first line.
- (For example, if a three and a five were thrown with the dice, a total of eight, then the horse number eight would be moved back to the first line. All players would then check their cards and pay five cents for each number eight card in their hands. The eights are then discarded.)
- The next player then rolls the dice for the second scratch. That horse moves back to the second line and costs ten cents for each card that you have in your hand, and discards the scratched cards.
- Continue with the third scratch and fourth scratch, moving to the third and the fourth lines, respectively paying the fifteen cents and twenty cents, and discarding the scratched cards accordingly. If you roll the number of a horse that is already scratched, you pay the amount on that horse's line and pass the dice to the next player.
The Race
- The horses now remaining at the gate are ready for the race to start.
- The next person to roll the dice adds the total up and moves that horse forward one space.
- However, if the total on the dice is that of a scratched horse, then that player must pay the amount which that horse is standing on.
- Play continues around the table until one horse reaches the finish line.
- Ending the Game
- Your cards are your shares of each horse in the race.
- Each card with the winning horse's number wins 25% of the pot.
- For example, if horse number nine would win the race, and if you were to have two nines in your hand, you would win half the pot. If you had all four nines in your hand, then you would take the entire pot.
- On the other hand, you have no nines in your hand, then you're just plain out of luck.
- After the pot has been divided, the cards are passed to the next player, the horses are all moved to the starting gate, and you're ready to begin the next race.
- Good Luck and Enjoy!
