Description

Like many others, I found and printed Albi27's Precision Cutter - Blade Cap to cover my precision cutter, only to realize that it was not the right size. Apparently, the model it is intended for is the Excel K1 (usually used with #11 blades), quite a bit thinner than the Excel K2 Medium Duty Aluminum Knife (the #2 blades look similar, but they are harder to find) that I have.

(At first, I designed a lookalike —shown in the background of the second picture— that fit the K2, but after a few days of using it I realised that the cap was not very practical: you really have to aim for that narrow slit when putting on the cap, and these things are SHARP! I decided to go for a simple, round shape instead.)

The cap may also fit the K5 Heavy Duty version, but I do not own one so cannot verify.

Yes, the cap fits tightly and will only grasp the first few millimeters of the shaft, but that is the whole idea. You do not want it to slide on to easily, risking to pierce the end, and you certainly do not want it to get off inadvertently. For additional safety, the cap tells you to “Be Careful!”.

Not that it matters to anyone, but this K2 (without any blade) was one of the few things I inherited from my father twenty years ago, and that is the only reason I insist on using it. He would have loved the almost endless possibilities of 3D printing. Here's to you, Bob!

Update: I now own a K1, and made a similar cap. It is on a separate plate.
