Description
This started out with just wanting to place my caliper in the lid area of my US General Mini Toolbox while the lid was open. Well… once I got started, I just kept going and ended up making this instead:
Just a few test prints later, I had the modular system done!
Some important notes about fitment:
First, the edges of the lid are bent in a mass produced manner. Not all of them are 100% the exact same. This sometimes makes the fitment loose or tight from lid to lid. Even on the SAME lid. In fact, one side of my lid is a bit tighter than the other one! I tried my best to come up with a size that would fit. Some adjustment might be necessary on your end, but I hope not!
Next, depending on what you have stored in the top of your Mini Toolbox, the lid may not close with this organizer installed and fully utilized! However if your like me, the Mini Toolbox just sits on my desk with the lid open 100% of the time so this isn't a big issue. Besides, I would personally rather have the extra space to store things anyways!
Finally, to fully use this organizer you will need to print seven pieces:
(I did include a couple extra plates with full sets for people who want to print from the Handy app)
There are male / female locking parts at each end of the modules. When I printed mine out of PLA, the fitment was snug enough and everything stuck together well. Different materials might require different settings.
When installing into your toolbox:
You can snap all 7 parts together, place it in the lid diagonally and press down each side, one at a time. You might also need to press in the middle / modular parts if they do not just fall into place. IT IS suppose to be a snug fit. I did not want the organizer just wobbling around in the edges of the lid! There is also a small lip on the forward facing part of the modules! Be sure to install them correctly!
Along the way I decided to make this a modular system for a couple reasons:
I'm SURE someone will want to put something else in there I haven't thought of, so make a module of your own! Please share and maybe even give a little credit back ;) Thanks everyone and happy printing!
