What is a vault if not something to hold your valuables in? Introducing my take on a new kind of Pokémon Card Storage intended to securely, but stylishly, store your most valued Pokémon Cards.
Update - March 13th, 2025 - I have released a new update to this design, let's call it a V3. It has changed the geometry of a few parts to fix issues found with the lever coming loose and tolerances on several parts. The print profiles have also been completely overhauled from extensive testing to find ways to give the cleanest print.
THERE ARE PARTS FROM THE NEW FILES THAT WILL NOT FIT WITH THE OLD FILES. It is HIGHLY recommended to finish any boxes you are currently printing, and then delete and re-download all files to start any new boxes.
Features:
Maximum Storage
While my Pokémon Deck Boxes are intended for on-the-go decks of 60 cards, this storage is for your prized cards and extra bulk, being able to hold approximately 8 times as many cards!
This initial release fits on a 180mm x 180mm build plate. An XL version for 256mm x 256mm build plates will be coming soon.
Multiple Storage Options
The latest release now includes two versions and allows you to hold unsleeved, sleeved, or top loaded cards.
Sleeved or Unsleeved
This is intended for your extra bulk, holding just under 500 sleeved and unsleeved cards
Top Loaders
This is intended for your more valuable, long term storage, holding just under 100 cards in top loaders
Secure Drawer with a Functional Push Push Mechanism!
The internal push push mechanism has been carefully developed to keep the drawer secure when closed and unable to accidentally open or spill, but also allowing the internals to be easily accessible as needed.
The mechanism makes interacting with the drawer extremely satisfying, while mainlining simple ease of use.
No Additional Parts Needed!
It was crucial that this design required no parts other than what you can print. There is no need for glue, magnets, or anything else and this box can be assembled right off your print bed.
The push push mechanism relies on an internal 3D printed spring to both keep it secure when closed and ease to open when you choose. After this initial release, I will also be adding the ability to use standard steel springs to ensure longevity.
Printing Tips:
Use PETG for the Spring
While PLA has been tested, after prolonged periods of compression PLA will likely deform and not work like it originally did. PETG or even ABS/ASA is recommended for longevity.
Several changes made to the print speeds and other general settings to provide the cleanest print
It is HIGHLY recommended to use the included print profiles, or at least reference off of them to see what changes were made
Supports used for the route on the bottom of the drawer to ensure the best quality and lowest friction
This is not needed for a successful print, but only adds minimum waste and print time so it is highly recommended
Starting with the Bottom - Box piece, slide the Lever over the post and press in place until completely seated on the bottom.
Slide the Spring into corresponding slot a the back wall until it no longer protrudes above the wall.
Continue assembling the box by lining up the Middle - Box cutouts to the ones found on the front corners of the bottom piece and sliding it into place
The front corners of the top and bottom pieces have triangular protrusions that align to cutouts in the middle piece. This, and the tight tolerances, provides a snug fit that will hold the pieces securely together.
It is easiest to align the cutouts at the front first and then snap the rear into place
Repeat this step with the Top - Box piece to complete the assembly of the box and set it aside
Starting with the Middle - Drawer and Button, align the Button to cutout in the middle piece and firmly snap it into place
This is the same assembly as the outer ring on my Deck Boxes. It is easiest to align it at an angle and then firmly push until it snaps in and is a snug fit
Similar to Step 4, align the cutouts on the middle piece to the corresponding spots on the Bottom - Drawer and slide it into place
Repeat this step for the Top - Drawer piece
Assembly is done
How to Operate:
Load the drawer with you favorite Pokémon card
Line up the drawer with the opening on the box and slide it into place
Push the drawer all the way back until it stops sliding and will not go in any further
Release the drawer to activate the locking mechanism
Repeat the above steps in reverse to open
In the above steps, it is important to push the drawer all the way in until it can't move anymore. Failure to do this can cause the mechanism to not lock or get stuck
If stuck, simply repeat the process, pushing all the way in
