Description
A great test of talent. A challenge to question your fine motor skills. Reminiscent of the old game operation, but with a challenging twist of action. Meatball is the perfect game for a test of precision and skill. Who will come out with a full plate? And who will have a hungry belly? Have fun finding out!
The object is to use a pair of chopsticks to get the most meatballs out of the serving plate and through the opening. But watch out! If you knock over the spaghetti sauce, you’re in for it. A challenging game requiring skill and dexterity, Meatball will make your palms sweat and your heart thump as you hang on for dear life with trembling chopsticks! But don’t worry, if it gets too tough, the difficulty is adjustable, and you can play the easier way. So grab your chopsticks, start your printer, and challenge your friends and family to a game of Meatball!
Setting up your game:
The top part (cover) has indentions on it, and easily attaches right on top of the posts. No glue required.
Place the goal bowl about a meatball’s length away from the serving plate, which is an inch. Place the spaghetti sauce on the pedestal, and place three meatballs in the red circles on the board. Always place the meatballs on their flat side. The front picture shows the starting setup.
How to play Classic version of Meatball
The print profile includes square and round chopsticks. The square ones are easier to use, and the round are harder to use. When you start the game, agree what type you will be using that game. Personally, I like using the round. You can also agree on whether you want to use one hand or two, although two hands is easier, and the standard for the game.
Contents
18 Meatballs, 1 Serving Plate, 1 Serving Plate Cover, 1 Spaghetti Sauce, 2 pairs of Chopsticks (round and square), and 1 Goal Bowl.
How to Play Meatball
Here's a pro tip: you can win every time if you hold your chopsticks right. That’s what it’s all about. The most important thing is that your hands are touching each other, and you can pivot to grab the meatball. The chopsticks should be parallel when you grab the meatball. And don’t go too fast. Practice makes perfect!
Let’s Start!
The youngest player goes first. You can only use the chopsticks through one of the three top openings. On your turn, take a chopstick in each hand, and try to get a meatball out from a top opening and drop it into the Goal Bowl.
If you get a meatball into the Goal Bowl, you can try again to get another, and keep trying until you fail. Whenever you fail (see definition of failure below), keep any meatballs that you got that turn, and your turn is over. Hand the chopsticks to the next player.
Failure: If one or more meatballs roll out of the red line on the perimeter of the serving plate, you have failed. Place all of the meatballs that rolled out of the red line somewhere together outside of the serving plate. They are used for a special rule:
The Spaghetti Sauce: If you are able to get the spaghetti sauce out of the top opening and into the Goal Bowl, you take all of the meatballs that have previously rolled out. But if you remove the spaghetti sauce from its pedestal, and it lands anywhere except into the Goal Bowl or back on to its pedestal, your turn is over, and you lose all of the meatballs that you have taken the whole game. They are returned to the supply. Hand the chopsticks to the next player.
At the end of every turn, replace any meatballs that rolled out or were taken, so that the number of meatballs on the serving plate is back to 3. Replace them with meatballs from the supply. The player whose turn it is chooses what red circles to place the meatballs on. Also return the spaghetti sauce back to its pedestal if it was removed.
The Winner
When there are no meatballs left on the serving plate, and no extras to replace them with, the game is over. Everyone counts up their meatballs, and whoever has the most wins.
In case you were wondering…
If you have the skill to get all three meatballs out of the serving plate, your turn is over, but you do of course keep the meatballs.
If you get the spaghetti sauce into the bowl, you can still try to get the regular meatballs out of the serving plate on that turn.
And you can always forfeit your turn or not finish it if you don’t want to.
There are more variants that add excitement, challenge, and danger. If you want to check them out, I included a pdf.
I’d love to hear your feedback, and don’t forget to leave a like and a rating!
Have Fun!
