Description

This is an animated turtle coaster with articulated joints that move when you place a drink on top of it.  One moment the turtle is sitting calmly on the table, the next moment he's screaming.

This is a simple mostly print-in-place model that is composed of two parts and uses no supports.  The bottom and top print separately, and then you just need to push the top onto the bottom.  There is a little bit of friction as you push the two together to help prevent them from coming apart.  Please note, the top has a larger cut-out for the head than it does for the tail, although it will still work if you put it on backwards.  The bottom uses 4 colors, while the top shell uses 2 colors, so it is very easy to print using an AMS.

This print relies on gravity to function (sorry astronauts), as a result, the shell is very thin, and the bottom piece prints solid.  Do not change this or the the model may not function properly, it took me several iterations to get this all right.  Also keep in mind that it can be very thin in areas, so while it can easily support the weight of a glass of water, please be careful with it.  Do not give it to toddlers or young children as they may be able to break off small pieces of it.

This print does generate a high percentage of poop due to the color changes, although I've done my best to make it as minimal as possible.  However, it would be awfully boring to have a turtle without any color, especially since those teeth (yes, 3D printed turtles have teeth) and tongue add a lot of character.  While you can only fit one onto an A1 Mini, the larger printers can fit 2 turtle bottoms or 4 turtle shells onto a single plate.  Alternatively, you could always remove the coloring and then paint it by hand afterwards.

I do not recommend using these coasters with hot beverages as it could melt or warp the PLA.

As I share this model freely, please do not sell prints of it, this should remain free for anyone who wants it.  If it is for a charitable cause, such as a PTA fundraiser, then please send me a private message.
