Space Lamp

Here is my entry for the Electromaker / MyMiniFactory design competition!This was a big project over the weekend and I’m really excited to share the results!My idea was to have the lamp be a bubble powered rocket ship blasting off to Mars!! Please check out my two Instagram posts that show how I designed this lamp from start to finish: https://www.instagram.com/p/B_ Q2o71nPq6/ https://www.instagram.com/p/B_ Q28m4HDzL/ Per the requirements of the competition the lamp had to be designed to fit within specific dimensions of the electromaker kit so I made sure to follow them exactly.I started in photoshop and created a fun image of Mars that I turned into a lithophane for the shade of the lamp. I made the lamp into a color lithophane by following along with a tutorial on www.Itslitho.com and turned it into a lampshade. This coloring method is really interesting as it distorts the original image and adjusts the colors to account for the depth of the 3d print, then you just have to tape it behind when it’s lit up. I had to reduce the file size of the top shade to be able to upload to the website but if you are looking for the higher file size version and in need of th JPEG backing for the color lithophane please send me a message! I designed the base in SelfCAD and took quite a while to model exactly how I wanted while still being able to have it be printed with minimal to no supports. In total the lamp took around 38 hours to print. Printed on my CraftBot XL!
