In the extremely popular Halo franchise, Crystal data chips are used by the UNSC to transfer hard data that can not be transferred by other means. This is usually due to the material being held being sensitive material, which includes weapon chars, navigational and Ai Data. These data chips are well known to hold the Reimann Matrix for an artificial intelligence such as Cortana.
