Machaeroprosopus buceros : The Dagger-faced Crocodile

Although it resembled a crocodile, it belonged to a different group of archosaurs. This reptile had a long, narrow snout lined with sharp teeth for catching fish and other aquatic prey. Its nostrils were positioned near the eyes rather than at the tip of the snout, a key feature of phytosaurs. Machaeroprosopus likely lived in rivers and swampy environments, lurking in the water as an ambush predator, much like modern crocodilians in similar habitats today.
