It is best known for the tall sail along its back, formed by elongated neural spines, which may have been used for display, thermoregulation, or species recognition. Unlike most theropods, Spinosaurus had adaptations for a semi-aquatic lifestyle, including a crocodile-like snout, conical teeth for catching fish, and dense bones for buoyancy control.
