Circular Electrical Box Cutout Tool - Accurate Magnetic Alignment

Makes perfect drywall, wood paneling or plywood cutouts with no measurements. Magnets align with each other through up to 5/8” thick paneling, (depending on strength of magnets used), thus eliminating error-prone measurements. This design works with standard metal or plastic, round or octagonal shaped 4" diameter electrical boxes. An optional handle is provided which can be mounted on the circular template tracer with a 1-1/4" screw and nylon lock nut.

How to construct:

The design makes use of strong 20mm dia. X 3mm thick Neodymium rare-earth magnets. Repeat the following step for both rectangular and circular parts: 

With north polarity on the top socket and south polarity on the bottom socket, glue one magnet in each socket. You will need 4 magnets in total. Note: North polarity is usually indicated with a red dot on the magnet.

How to use: (refer to attached illustrations)

1. Install the smaller rectangular part into a 4" circular or octagonal electrical box using the screws that came with the box;
2. Temporary secure the drywall or paneling over the box.  Now take the circular part and move it around until it magnetically self-aligns with the electrical box part underneath the paneling. Make sure the orientation is correct otherwise the circular unit will not attract & stay in place;
3. Draw the inner outline of the circular part with a pencil or marker;
4. Lower the panel & cut the hole along the marked outline with a saw;
5. Replace the drywall over a perfect fitting cutout over the electrical box.
