Description
This is large gear. It is meant as a decoration piece to be attached to a wall. For example in a workshop or in a shed. The size is 205 mm. It can be scaled in the slicer to fit on the build plate.
The gear can be painted to make it look like a rusty and greasy old gear. It can be attached to a wall with glue. The current version does not have a hole for a screw or a hook yet.
I used reusable adhesive putty to attach the gear to a wall, but it keeps falling off the wall. I think that it is too heavy for adhesive putty.
The gear in the photo is printed with AzureFilm PLA Original filament Silver. To be sure that the top surface did not fail, I used 15% Gyroid infill. With 2 walls (perimeters) it took 208 grams of filament. The layer height was set to 0.20 mm and I added a Height Range Modifier to set the layer height to 0.15 mm for the top.
OpenSCAD is free software: https://openscad.org/
The script is compatible with both the 2021 and 2024 version of OpenSCAD, but I suggest to use the 2024 version with optimizations turned on. The 2021 version is too slow with this script and even rendering the final model takes a long time with the 2024 version of OpenSCAD.
The file “Gear as Wall Decoration.zip” contains the script. Be sure to unzip/unpack it first before using the script.
The script uses the Public Domain Involute Parameterized Gears: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6596095
