Description

This fully-printable watch band utilizes a simple-yet-reliable mechanism, allowing you to comfortably and securely style your watch. It was designed for 38mm/40mm/41mm Apple Watches using an off-the-shelf connector, but can be utilized for any watch with 22mm lugs. You can customize the band with different patterns by using translucent filament to show the infill. Fits wrists 6.5in/165mm - 8.25in/210mm in circumference.

In addition to the printed parts, you will need a fastener to attach the band to your watch. For Apple Watches, you can use a connector like this. For other watches, you may need a set of 22mm spring bars.

Printing

The band is designed to be printed with TPU or other flexible filament. I recommend also printing the strap keeper in a flexible material. You can vary the infill settings to achieve different patterns on the band, and changing the number of walls and top/bottom layers will let you adjust the flexibility. For mine, I used the following settings:

  • Layer height: 0.1mm
  • Top/bottom layers: 2
  • Infill density: 30%
  • Infill pattern: Hilbert Curve

For the peg, I recommend a durable material such as PETG.

All parts should be printed in the given orientation. No supports are required. Note that the side facing the build plate will be on the outside of your wrist once worn.

Assembly

To assemble, insert the peg through the rectangular hole in the band (the piece that does not have the adjustment holes). Make sure you insert the peg from the inside--the side that was on top during printing--and that it snaps fully into place. It may require a fair bit of force to get the strap into the grooves, and once properly seated the back of the pin should sit flush against the band.

It may also be worth spending a bit of time with a craft knife or razor blade cleaning up the side of the band that will be touching your wrist to ensure the surface is smooth and the corners are not sharp.

Insert the strap keeper over the same side of the band that the peg is on. Make sure the bump on the inside of the strap keeper is on top so it can engage with the holes on the other side of the band.

Use

Fastening the band is similar to any other sport-style watch. Simply insert the peg through one of the holes in the band, and then slide the strap keeper onto the excess to hold everything in place. I generally recommend leaving the first hole open for the strap keeper, as it provides extra security during use.
