Description
For my son’s birthday, I decided to create a special gift: a 3D-printed Minecraft torch. Inspired by the iconic torch from the game, I designed a completely new model in Fusion 360 that goes beyond the versions available online.
What makes this torch unique?
First, the design is fully tailored to accommodate a simple flashlight. There’s no need for soldering or wiring—you simply insert the flashlight into the torch, and by pressing the top, you can switch the light on or off. This concept was inspired by the torch design from [SanfordPrime_562474](https://www.printables.com/@SanfordPrime_562474). Additionally, I incorporated a wood grain pattern into the body of the torch, a detail often missing from online versions but present in Mojang’s official Minecraft torch.
Another advantage of my design is that it’s parametric, meaning the dimensions can be easily adjusted to fit different flashlight sizes, as long as the flashlight has a button on the bottom.
To make the process easier, I also created two "parametric test" models: one for the top and the other for the base. These can be printed first to test the fit and function of the torch. The torch is working properly if the flashlight moves freely in the base but fits snugly in the top, and you can turn the light on by pressing the top.
Print settings:
I printed everything using PLA. For the body of the torch, I used three walls with a 5% infill, which gave it enough sturdiness while keeping it lightweight. For the top (the flame), I opted for just two walls and a 3% gyroid infill. This infill pattern allowed plenty of light to pass through, and the wavy structure of the gyroid infill closely resembles the flickering of a flame.
