Introduction

I have been using Ruuvitags for all sorts of purposes over the years and attaching them has allways been a bit of a headache, so usually they just end up laying on the ground or jammed in some backpack pocket never to be seen again. No more with this multipurpose bumper case!

Easily hang your tags on hooks, nails, carabiners, cordage, metal surfaces and more.

You can also color code your tags with the cases for easy identification when using multiple tags.

Do note that this model is designed for flexible filaments and likely won't work with normal rigid materials!

Unfamiliar with Ruuvitags?

Ruuvitag is a simple looking but a very powerfull environment monitoring sensor suited for hundreds of applications. It is completely battery powered and sends data over bluetooth LE to other devices like your mobile phone. It can also store the measured data locally and sync the history with your viewing device while in range.

Personally I use the tags for a few different purposes:

  • monitoring the humidity and temperature in my filament storage boxes (alarm for high humidity)
  • monitoring my balcony temperature for chili growing (alarms for high/low temperatures)
  • monitoring and logging weather conditions and tent temperatures when backpacking and camping

So now with the new case I don't need to leave them floating in my boxes or backpack pockets or slap them permanently in place with double sided tape.

For more information about the tags themselves go check their own page at https://ruuvi.com/

(not affiliated in any way, i just personally use and like them)

Printing:

  • Material: TPU or similar flexible filament
  • Perimeters: 3-4
  • Infill: any
  • Layer height: Optimised for 0.2mm, thinner layers should work without issues
  • Supports and Brim: no
  • Orientation: Print laying down with loop portion flush against the print bed
  • Colour change/magnet insertion height:
    • To embed magnets inside the model while printing add a pause or color change and add your magnets to the holes before continuing the print
    • For standard version add pause/colour change at 4.60 mm
    • For slim version add pause/colour change at 4.20 mm
  • Alternative way of adding magnets without pause/color change:
    • If you want to add the magnets afterwards you can do so using the .3mf files in a following way
      1. open the .3mf version of the model with prusaslicer
      2. answer “yes” to the multi part prompt
      3. go to the right side panel and delete all parts named “magnet-plug-x”
      4. print normally
    • This will leave the bottomside of the magnet holes open so you can insert and glue magnets afterwards

Magnets:

  • Standard version
    • 3 x cylindrical neodynium magnets
      • maximum size 8 mm x 3 mm (W x H)
  • Slim version
    • 2 x cylindrical neodynium magnets
      • maximum size 6 mm x 2 mm (W x H)

When inserting the magnets be mindfull of the polarity if you intend on using magnetic mounting plates later.

Future additions/updates

  • slim and low profile wallmount plates in a couple of flavours (soon)
    • magnetic and non-magnetic version for double sided tape
    • magnetic and non-magnetic version with hidden screws
  • Magnetic backplate for the standard version that travels on the backside of the case and can be popped free for added mounting options (also soon)
    • through fabrics (clothing, tents, backpacks etc.
    • through glass, plastic etc.
  • Version for rigid filaments
    • using flexible clips or two part construction with threads to lock the tag inside
