Description

Black Soldier Fly Larvae make great food for fish and chickens and they are easy to raise in many areas. The flies are attracted to rotting food and lay their eggs between nearby cracks and crevices so they drop into the food when they hatch.

This print allows you to raid their eggs before hatching to start your own black soldier fly colonies.

It is meant to fit in a standard 3lb coffee can approximately 152mm ( ~6") in diameter.  The magnetic version uses 8mm x 2mm button magnets.

  • Print everything at .2 layer height to make sure the vertical dimensions aren't changed by the slicer.
  • No supports needed
  • Pause at layer 13 to insert magnets in magnetic version
  • Don't forget to check your magnet polarity before resuming print
  • Printing the Screen:
    • Print the screen with 10 walls, 0 bottom layers and 1 top layers.
    • Use 20% triangular infill (avoid infills that change with the Z axis).
    • When the top layer begins to print, turn down your extruder to 50% for a nice screen mesh.

This is a work in progress and may change as I learn more about the BSF lifecycle and their preferred habitats.
