Description

And now for something truly original... yet another maker coin design.

This model contains nothing you haven't seen on any other people's maker coins before.

I simply wanted to have my own personal go-to object for live demonstration 3D printing, and to give away. Something that doesn't consume much material, and prints fast enough that one can reasonably wait and observe the whole print from start to finish. Okay, perhaps not post-millenials, but anyway.

There is a small gap inbetween the center part and the outer ring, so you can rotate the gear while holding the center with your fingers. Prints in place as a single piece. Sometimes a little force is required to break the piece free in the beginning. The gears, while not perfect, will also function if you put two prints of this model together.

All overhangs are 45 degrees. I mostly make functional/mechanical designs, and hence the absolute majority of my filament stock at home is PETG which can't handle more than that. (It will successfully print but look ragged.) I've added an alternate version for PLA-based filaments with a 60 degree overhang angle on the fan blades.

  • Print time on i3 MK3S: roughly 22 minutes
  • Filament: 80 cm or just under 2.5 grams
  • Outer diameter: 39mm
  • Thickness: 3.2mm
