Description
Since multiboard has released multipoint there are now two different, but very similar systems: Multiconnect and multipoint.
As multiconnect was released several months earlier (beginning of 2024 compared to August) there are many models using the multiconnect system. Also multiconnect is not restricted to the multiboard system and can be used with HSW or directly with your existing wall using the universal option. Still multipoint is now the official solution for multiboard.
So people will now start printing and using multipoint as well. As both systems look similar there might be some confusion. In addition some people might want to use their existing gridfinity shelves or (open) bins (v2) or any other multiconnect compatible model with multipoint connectors on their board.
As of this here it is: The adapter to attach any existing multiconnect print to multipoint. This means the existing models can be reused with multipoint in any way you want - of course only if you want to do this, the existing multiconnect mounts can still be used as well.
Be aware that multiconnect and multipoint follow slightly different design principles. Multiconnect is designed to also hold things in place with just one connector (although I recommend at least one in every corner), while multiconnect should be used with multiple connectors as each of the connectors is pretty small (and as of this slightly weaker). So keep this in mind before hanging heavy stuff using this adapter.
Usage: Print the model in the appropriate length. Then slide the adapter into the existing multiconnect slot on the back/mounting side of the model you are using. It may slightly “lock” in place there, so be certain to do this (can still be removed using tools). When the adapter is installed you can just attach the models to multipoint.
There are two version of the adapters, one for the normal back/mounting side, one for the quick connect version of multiconnect v2. Choose whatever fits your needs.
Printing instructions: Just print in the orientation provided. You should not need to change anything, default settings should be fine. Maybe not use the “fastest” printing profiles if you run into issues. It's always good to do a test print first, cooling is also important.
The model itself is printed in an orientation that feels not optimal for this. As the adapter will be pressed together in between the multiconnect slot and multipoint connector this is all fine, no extensive forces will be applied to the adapter itself (besides being squeezed in between).
Multipoint vs. multipoint lite: This adapter is intended to be used with multipoint and only with multipoint. The lite version is not tested and not officially supported.
Disclaimer: I have build this adapter to easy the differences between the two systems and allow people to mix both systems any way they want. Also I want to allow usage of multipoint in combination with any existing (maybe already printed) multiconnect models. Still, I think both connector options have their own use cases and benefits. You should choose whatever suits your needs the best way 😉
